According to reports, X-Men star Hugh Jackman is in talks to star in a big-screen musical adaptation of Les Miserables.
The Australian actor would apparently play Jean Valjean, the man who steals a loaf of bread to feed his sister’s children and who spends the ensuing years in prison and trying to escape it. He also becomes the guardian of a young girl named Cosette. These all happen against the backdrop of a 19th century French rebellion.
William Nicholson is the one who wrote the script. The story is based on Victor Hugo’s book but it is best known to people as one of the longest-running musicals around.
