Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds are the latest Hollywood couple who announced their divorce!
“After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we’ve decided to end our marriage,” they say in a joint statement. “We entered our relationship with love and it’s with love and kindness we leave it. While privacy isn’t expected, it’s certainly appreciated.”
The two stars got married in September 2008 during a small private ceremony in a wilderness retreat in Vancouver — Ryan’s hometown.
According to insiders, the big problem with their relationship was the distance. “They spent a lot of time apart when they are working…She’s been unhappy for a while,” a source told Us Weekly magazine.
Several reports earlier this year claimed that Ryan and Scarlett rarely saw each other, and this was putting a strain on their relationship. “Nothing is going to change unless Scarlett and Ryan can learn to compromise — and they won’t,” an insider said. “Scarlett won’t cancel anything she has coming up or wants to go to, and neither will Ryan.”
According to American tabloid the National Enquirer, another issue for them was the discussion about when to start a family. “They’re struggling to see eye-to-eye on almost anything,” a source said. “From when to start a family — he’s ready, but she isn’t — to her smoking and what she sees as his reckless motorcycle riding. What’s making matters worse is that their busy careers are keeping them apart, so they get really out of sync. It’s gotten so bad that neither of them is hurrying home just to start fighting again.”
