Revolutionary Road actress Kate Winslet shocked the world of showbiz when she announced her split from director husband Sam Mendes, after seven years of marriage. The pair, who were thought to be one of Hollywood’s most stable couples, went their separate ways earlier this year, according to a statement released through their lawyers on Monday.
“The split is entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement,” the statement added. “Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children. They ask that the media respect their privacy at this time.”
According to Daily Mail newspaper, their relationship hit the rocks after the filming of Revolutionary Road, in which Mendes directed his wife costarring with Leonardo DiCaprio.
A source close to Mendes said, “He became bored working on his latest theatrical project, and he took that boredom home with him. And that led to the spark being taken out of their marriage.”
The two have one child together: Joe Alfie Winslet Mendes, 6. But Winslet also has a nine-year-old daughter, Mia, from her first marriage to assistant director Jim Threapleton.
“Kate is devastated,” said a source close to her. “She thought their marriage was for ever and now she has two children from two marriages and both are not living with their fathers.
