Robin Williams is bringing his standup act back to HBO. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the cable network will broadcast the actor’s new one-man show, Weapons of Self-Destruction, in December and will feature a performance taped in Washington D.C., one of the stops along Williams’ current sold-out tour. This marks the comedian’s first solo comedy special on the network in seven years.
According to press notes, Weapons of Self-Destruction "highlights Williams' trademark free associations and riffs on social and political absurdities."
Williams has done four solo specials on HBO. The most recent, which aired in 2002, received five Emmy nominations. His relationship with HBO dates back to his appearance on a Young Comedians show in 1977.
Robin’s current tour drew extra attention in March when it was put on hold so that the 57-year-old actor could undergo heart surgery.
