Actress Halle Berry is in negotiations for a starring role in the thriller The Surrogate (not Bruce Willis' The Surrogates) for 20th Century Fox.
According to Variety, director Paul Verhoeven is developing the project which is based on the 2004 novel by Kathryn Mackel. The story revolves around a couple desperate to have a child and who discover that the surrogate they've hired to carry their baby is insane.
Berry is interested in playing the role of the wife, and Fox wants her to do it, but the official deal has yet to be made.
The project would mark Berry's return to the big screen after having a baby last year. She hasn't starred in a film since 2007's Perfect Stranger opposite Bruce Willis. The Surrogate would also re-team Berry with producer Ralph Winter, who produced Fox's X-Men trilogy, in which the actress starred.
