Academy Award-nominated actress Amy Adams is in final negotiations to star opposite Christian Bale, Mark Wahlberg and Melissa Leo in the boxing-themed true-life Paramount Pictures drama The Fighter, which is set to begin shooting next month in Lowell, Massachusetts.
The movie revolves around boxer "Irish" Mickey Ward (Wahlberg) and his trainer half-brother Dick Eklund (Bale), chronicling their early days on the rough streets of Lowell, Mass., through Eklund's battle with drugs and Ward's eventual world championship.
Amy will play Charlene, “a tough, gritty bartender and former college high-jumper” who ends up dating Wahlberg’s character. Melissa Leo also has been cast as Wahlberg and Bale's mother.
Adams recently starred in Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian and is set to star opposite Meryl Streep yet again in Julie and Julia on August 7. She will also be seen in Anand Tucker's Leap Year in which she plays a young woman who travels to Dublin to propose to her boyfriend on Leap Day. When weather forces her to veer off course, she enlists a cynical Irish innkeeper (Matthew Goode) to join her on a cross-country trip.
