20th Century Fox has confirmed that Hugh Jackman's costar Ryan Reynolds will reprise his role as Deadpool from X-Men Origins: Wolverine in a spin-off movie.
The 32-year-old Canadian actor will again star as Wade Wilson, a wisecracking mercenary dying of cancer who's cured of the disease after undergoing the same Weapon X genetic alteration that transforms Wolverine.
Deadpool spin-off will probably have to be a prequel since the Marvel Comics antihero, who lost his ability to deliver his trademark sarcastic one-liners when his mouth was sewn shut in Wolverine, is expected to mouth off again in the new film.
Reynolds has talked before about wanting to do a solo spin-off: "I've made no secret about my desire to do a Deadpool movie, but if you're going to do it, it would have to be 100 percent faithful to its origins," he told MTV News. "To stay as true to the source material as possible is the only way to do it, and I say that because there’s nothing more interesting than the source material for Deadpool. There's no reason to deviate from that."
Aside from Deadpool and the Wolverine sequel, Fox is also working on an X-Men spin-off focusing on Ian McKellen's villainous Magneto.
