Katie Holmes will show off her dark side. According to Variety, the 30-year-old actress has signed on to star in Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, a fright flick for Miramax Films.
The adrenaline-pumping flick is based on a TV movie that aired on ABC back in 1973 – notable for being one of the only two terrifying TV movies ever made; the other is The Dark Night of the Scarecrow – and centers on a young girl who moves in with her dad and his girlfriend, only to discover that the house is haunted by demonic creatures.
The thriller was scripted by Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy, and Blade II mastermind Guillermo del Toro and Matthew Robbins. Del Toro is also producing with Mark Johnson and the film will be directed by del Toro protégé Troy Nixey. Shooting is slated to begin this summer in Melbourne, Australia.
This isn't Holmes' only big screen action: she recently completed shooting the comedy The Extra Man with Kevin Kline.
And del Toro is also busy with his upcoming projects: Peter Jackson-produced The Hobbit parts one and two, which del Toro is directing.
