With four Grammy Awards, a Latin Grammy and more than 25 million albums sold, Christina Aguilera has already conquered the music charts and the red carpet, and now she also wants to achieve big screen stardom.
According to Variety, the Candyman singer has signed on to make her film debut by playing a stripper in a new musical called Burlesque.
The movie storyline will feature Christina as βan ambitious small town girl with a big voice who finds love, family and success in a Los Angeles neo-burlesque club.β Based on Bob Fosse's iconic musical Cabaret, the musical was written by Pussycat Dolls producer Steven Antin, who will also direct the project.
Antin has described neo-burlesque as βa contemporary take on the traditional burlesque that derived from vaudeville, with singing, dancing, comedy and more tease than striptease.β His sister, Robin, created the burlesque troupe The Pussycat Dolls in 1995.
The film will begin filming late this year and will be produced by Sony Picture's Screen Gems. "I couldn't be more excited, as this was a project written with her in mind," Screen Gems' Clint Culpepper told Variety.
