Actors Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes will play feuding Greek gods in Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures' Clash of the Titans remake. Neeson is playing Zeus, the wise and mighty yet sometimes ill-tempered king of the gods, who was portrayed by Laurence Olivier in Desmond Davis's 1981 film, while Fiennes is in final negotiations to play Hades, brother of Zeus and lord of the underworld, who seeks to usurp his rival.
Longtime friends Neeson and Fiennes haven't shared the screen since 1993 Oscar winner Schindler's List. The film will also be the first new project for Neeson since the death of his wife Natasha Richardson, although negotiations began prior to her skiing accident last month.
French film-maker Louis Letterier, whose other credits include last year's The Incredible Hulk and Transporter 2, is directing the new take on the adventures of Perseus, the son of Zeus, who once again must battle snake-haired Medusa and the Kraken in order to rescue the Princess Andromeda.
Other actors among the cast include Sam Worthington of the upcoming Terminator Salvation who has already signed on to play Perseus. Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen, best known for his role as villain Le Chiffre in Bond movie Casino Royale, will be playing Draco, a skilled fighter and leader of the Praetorian Guard that accompanies Perseus.
British actress Gemma Arterton, who played Strawberry Fields in Quantum of Solace, is to star as demi-goddess Io, and Andromeda, the captured princess will be played by Alexa Davalos.
Clash of the Titans begins shooting in the UK later this month and is currently scheduled for a March 2010 release date.
