According to Usmagazine.com, Chief Justice Lovemore Munlo of Malawi has set a hearing for Madonna's adoption case on May 4. Munlo will lead a three-judge panel in the appeal case, High Court and Supreme Court of Appeal spokesman Joseph Chigona told local reporters. The hearing will begin at 9 a.m., but "since it involves an infant, it will be heard in chambers," Chigona added.
A judge rejected Madonna's bid to adopt three-year-old Chifundo "Mercy" James on April 3, citing requirements that adoptive parents reside in Malawi for 18 to 24 months.
The 50-year-old singer, who also adopted David Banda, 3, from Malawi, filed an appeal the same day, her lawyer confirmed.
"To deny Chifundo James the opportunity to be adopted by me could expose her to hardship and emotional trauma which is otherwise avoidable," Madonna wrote in papers submitted to the court.
