The Season Seven American Idol champ David Cook, 26, was forced to cancel two scheduled live shows earlier this week in order to deal with what his representatives called "personal family matters."
A statement on his official website read, "We are canceling Monday and Tuesday's shows to allow David time to deal with personal family matters. Please respect his privacy at this time.”
No further explanation was shared concerning the "family matters" which caused the concerts' cancellation. But, David's brother, Adam Cook, has been battling brain cancer for over a decade, and the singer spoke openly about this during his Idol run. Moreover, Cook's representative told People that David has spent some time with Adam last week.
Meanwhile, fans posted hundreds of messages of support on his website, telling him that he and his family were in their thoughts and prayers, and urged him to take as much time as he needs to deal with the situation.
David Cook was originally planned to perform on March 30 at Colby-Sawyer College in New London, New Hampshire and on the following day at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, Connecticut. The concerts were part of his The Declaration Tour to support his eponymous debut album David Cook. His rep declared that "David would like everyone to rest assured that we are working with the Universities to reschedule the shows that are missed."
The American Idol champ hopes to return to his tour later this week. Concert dates are currently scheduled through October.
