There are very few couples who break up and actually stay friends. Drew Barrymore, 34, and Justin Long, 31, seem to be one of those couples. They split in July last year after almost getting married, took some time apart, and reunited as friends. And recently they were seen together, quite close actually, at some events, including the premiere of Barrymore's new HBO movie, Grey Gardens. But according to Drew, they're not a couple again, or at least so she says…
After several media outlets reported that they had rekindled their romance, Drew insists she currently isn't dating anyone. "I love it! It's great!" she told Us Weekly at the Los Angeles premiere of Grey Gardens on Thursday, April 16. "I get to be who I am and do what I want and be with the people I love. I feel like I have everything, and I'm very fortunate, and it's a very rich, fulfilling time in my life."
And the following day, during an appearance on Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show, Barrymore stressed that she and Long aren't back on, claming they are just good friends. "We're dear friends. I guess people find it a little confusing. I totally understand. It seems like, 'What is the deal with them?' but we just adore each other. We're in each other's lives, and we're friends, and we're working together, and we have worked together," she told Ellen.
Drew and Justin recently co-starred in the movie based on the famed book He's Just Not That Into You and will next be seen in Going The Distance, a romantic comedy about a couple trying to overcome obstacles in their long-distance relationship.
When asked by Ellen how she'd feel if Long began dating other women, Barrymore only said: "We're just friends, so we are free to do whatever we want," adding that "I just hope that they are fantastic people, because he's a great guy and he deserves the most happiness."
"And, for me, I am still just not ready for anything," she continued. "I've spent two years really with a very different life than I've had before. My priorities have changed. I directed a film. I did this drama [Grey Gardens]. It was something I've never done anything like ... and I don't know how to maintain a relationship to be honest, while I'm doing all of that."
