Match point Federer! The Swiss tennis star is going to be a father soon! His girlfriend, Miroslava 'Mirka' Vavrinec, is expecting the couple's first child, Roger Federer happily announced on his website on Thursday.
“I have some really awesome news to share with all of you: Mirka and I are excited to let you know that we will be parents this summer! Mirka is pregnant and we are so happy to be starting a family together,” the 27-year-old tennis player wrote in the message to his fans.
"This is a dream come true for us. We love children and we are looking forward to being parents for the first time. Mirka is feeling great and everything is going well," he added.
The 30-year-old Vavrinec, who is also Federer's manager, is a former WTA Tour player. The two have been dating since the 2000 Sydney Olympics, where they met as members of the Switzerland team.
Federer, the second-ranked tennis player, made this announcement ahead of the Indian Wells tournament in the US, which started on Thursday. After six weeks out of the circuit with back injury, the Swiss athlete said he was "feeling better" and looking forward to playing Rafael Nadal, the world number one.
