Summit Entertainment has chosen a director for the third film in the hugely popular vampire series T.i.ight, and it's not Drew Barrymore. Although she recently gushed about the possibility of directing Eclipse, saying "I'm one of the directors that is being talked about, which is great, because I'm a director now," it looks like she won't be working with heartthrob Robert Pattinson and the rest of the vampires.
Disappointed or relieved?
According to Variety, Juan Antonio Bayona, who directed the Spanish-language horror-thriller The Orphanage and is currently attached to another thriller, Hater, has been signed on for Eclipse.
Although he has never directed an English-language film, Bayona's skilled way with the horror genre must have impressed Summit Entertainment. Eclipse features an army of newborn vampires hunting down Bella Swan ( Kristen Stewart), culminating in a showdown with Edward Cullen ( Robert Pattinson) and the werewolves. The new appointed director, who is a protégé of Guillermo Del Toro (director of the upcoming The Hobbit), is expected to have the movie ready for June next year.
It seems producer Summit Entertainment has opted for a different director on each part of the saga: Twilight was helmed by Catherine Hardwicke, Chris Weitz replaced Catherine Hardwicke on New Moon, and now Bayona is on for Eclipse. As for Breaking Dawn, fans will just have to wait and see.
