"Wizards of Waverly Place' star Selena Gomez and up-and-coming tween actress Joey King ("The Suite Life of Zack & Cody") have been cast to star in "Beezus and Ramona" based on author Beverly Cleary's popular "Ramona" children's series.
In the story, the smart but insecure Beatrice ("Beezus") Quimby deals with her accident-prone little sister, Ramona.
Joey beat out hundreds of other girls for the part of the younger sister.
"You know how Ramona is funny, hilarious? I do have to say myself I am very funny. … I am so wacky and I do the craziest, silliest, funniest things," says the 9-year-old Joey. "Sometimes I just break out dancing."
The two sisters are ages 4 and 9 in the first book, so this "adaptation" will be skipping over five years since the adorable Joey and Selena are 9 and 15. Let's hope the film doesn't completely ruin this classic for many young readers.
