Offering the obvious reason that "The show is played out," Fox has announced that ‘Prison Break’ has been cancelled. The Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell show began to go downhill at the end of its second season, and ratings have not been good for the escape drama that was a huge hit when it debuted in 2005.
Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly has decided that the show has gone ridiculous: "The show just played out. I think you get to the point where creatively everyone feels enough stories were told."
"And it's down to the place now with our viewer base where we want to finish strong and not just gimp out next season.''
Exec producer Matt Olmstead told EW that there was ''nowhere to go beyond this season,'' adding that he ''didn't want the show to become a parody of itself.''
Olmstead won't reveal much about the upcoming season's story line other than promising, ''There will be deaths."
The series returns on April 17 for its final run of four to six episodes. But while Prison Break is ending, that also means that his hotness Wentworth will be available for other film or TV projects.
