Jett Travolta died after suffering a seizure, not a blow to the head, on Friday while the family was on vacation. So say officials in the Bahamas who are denying that the 16-year-old son of actor John Travolta hit his head when he collapsed in the bathroom.
On Sunday, John and his wife Kelly Preston issued a public statement: "Jett was the most wonderful son that two parents could ever ask for and lit up the lives of everyone he encountered."
The statement posted on John Travolta's web site. He thanks people for their prayers and support and added, "We are heartbroken that our time with him was so brief. We will cherish the time we had with him for the rest of our lives."
Two forensic pathologists, including an American doctor, performed an autopsy in the Bahamas on Monday, but the cause of death was not released by officials.
The latest bit of news regarding how Jett died actually came from Glen Campbell, an official with a Bahamian funeral home, who told the AP that Jett Travolta's death certificate said he was killed by a "seizure."
Campbell said that was the result of the autopsy findings and that the body was in "great condition" and showed no sign of head trauma.
The body was cremated and the Travoltas have returned to Florida where they are expected to bury their son's ashes.
