Spiffy news for movie fans who have been disappointed at the Best Picture Oscar nominees over the past decade - an honor usually bestowed on artsy fartsy films very few people ever see:
The summer blockbuster "The Dark Knight" starring Christian Bale and the late Heath Ledger - a movie which most everyone saw and loved - is among the five films nominated for best picture at the 20th Annual Producers Guild Awards.
But will it make it to the Oscar ballot and be included alongside critics picks (but not loved by audiences), films such as 'Milk' and 'Frost/Nixon'?
Christopher Nolan's Batman flick Christopher was not included on the Golden Globe best picture list, and was also excluded from the Screen Actors Guild outstanding ensemble category.
Blockbusters are seldom among the Best Picture nominations which are usually populated by art films.
Let's hope this is the year that films are again honored for their mass appeal and quality of filmmaking, and not because of a political or social agenda being promoted in Hollywood.
