Ashton Kutcher got together about 50 of his celebrity friends to make a MySpace video pledging support to President Barack Obama that they will do stuff to help change the world. Caught up in the euphoria of the Obama inauguration, Kutcher and the stars are vowing some lofty ideals - like ending the world wide epidemic human trafficking (slavery) and child sexual exploitation.
Great if unrealistic goals, Ashton, but why not a pledge to your country instead of a man, and why not start that 'stop the exploitation' thing in ...say... Hollywood films?
Kutcher: The truth is it's going to take millions, hundreds of millions, of people for [change] to happen, though. I think there is an assumption that on Tuesday, Obama's going to put his hand on the Bible and the world's going to change. I know that that's true, but not because of anything he's going to do. It's going to because of what all of us do. He's the catalyst. It's his inspiring message that asks us to be of service to each other."
"I want to end human trafficking and the sexual exploitation of children," he said." Whenever I'm faced with an opportunity, I always ask myself, "Am I going to care about this in five years? In 10 years?" It has to be something I'm going to rally behind for a long time. I feel like I can dedicate myself to this for the rest of my lifetime, and if I don't get it done this time, in the one after that.
Others in the celebrity video included Demi Moore, Cameron Diaz, Sean "Diddy" Combs, Scarlett Johannsson who pledged to Obama that they would do stuff like turn off the lights when leaving a room, not flushing after a piss, and selling off their obnoxious large cars (to other people who will drive them).
I wish our new President all the best and hope he can make positive changes but these celebs are just frickin lame.
