His album was the biggest seller of the year and there's no denying Lil Wayne is the one to beat at the Grammys in February. His sixth album "Tha Carter III" has earned him 8 nominations including the coveted Album of the Year bid, thanks to hits like "Lollipop" and "A Milli."
The New Orleans rapper has had Grammy nods before but has yet to take home a trophy. That drought will end this year when Weezy finally gets the recognition he's been wanting for over a decade.
Coldplay came in second in total nominations with seven nods. The band's album, "Viva La Vida," was a big seller, and is in the Album of the Year category too.
Coldplay and Lil Wayne will be up against Radiohead's "In Rainbows"; Ne-Yo's "Year of the Gentleman"; and Robert Plant and Alison Krauss', "Raising Sand."
Katy Perry's hit "I Kissed a Girl" wasn't nominated for anything but she did nab a nomination for Female Pop Vocal Performance. She said in a statement that she was honored to be recognized, adding, "I can't believe it, but this year I won't be watching the Grammys in my jammies!"
The Grammy Awards are scheduled for live broadcast on CBS on Feb 8. For the full list of nominees, check www.grammy.com.
