'The Day the Earth Stood Still' grabbed the number one spot for the weekend box office. As Keanu Reeves would say, "Whoa." The sci-fi remake of the over-rated 1951 cult film took in $31 million in the US, and $70 million worldwide. That's a lot of coin for a movie that sucks.
Keanu played the alien Klaatu who must judge the human race and Jennifer Connelly played as an astrobiologist on whom the world's fate depends. The movie also starred Will Smith's kid, Jaden Smith, and Kathy Bates.
The good of this film: Jennifer Connelly.
The bad about this film: Jaden Smith is annoying, very cheap and obvious CGI special effects (where did they spend $80 million on this film again?), the dull script, no likable characters, military portrayed as stupid, an abrupt unresolved ending, and the incredibly stupid political correct theme of "humans are ruining the earth" promoted by the moviemakers.
Save your money. This disaster won't last long in the theaters.
