So are they married or what? After yesterday's election results, Californians decided to say no to same-sex marriage in their state and voted to make the unions constitutionally illegal. T.i., after about 16,000 couples got hitched in recent years. So what about the marriages of celebrity couples such as Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi who wed in August?
DeGeneres tried to put a brave face on the disappointment and quipped: "I can't return the wedding gifts. I love my new toaster."
Star Trek's George Takei, who married long time partner Brad Altman in September, is holding out hope that somehow current gay marriages would remain valid ("Grandfathered in.") while the bill would only affect future unions.
"We tasted marriage now, and it really is delicious!" Altman told People magazine. "And the thought that the people of California might take our marriage away from us is really frightening and worrisome and upsetting."
The legislation called Proposition 8 passed with 52 percent of the vote despite have massive amounts of Hollywood money spent on the campaign to defeat it.
