Chris Brown was the big winner at the American Music Awards last night, but unlike Kanye West, he was surprised and humbled by the honor. "I don't know what to say. I would have given it to Coldplay," said Brown, 19, who was also named Artist of the year, male Pop/Rock Artist and Male Soul/R&B Artist.
His girl Rihanna got two awards for pop/rock female artist and female soul R&B artist, while Alicia Keys captured two awards for her 'As I Am' album, winning for both the pop/rock and soul/R&B categories.
In other awards, Chris Daughtry won for a second year in a row, picking up another this year for pop/rock group, while two other American Idol's Jordin Sparks, and Carrie Underwood, won for adult contemporary music and for best country album respectively.
Kanye West, who still can't get over that he lost the male Rap & Hip-hop Artist award last year, actually won it this year but said he wanted to give it to Lil Wayne since he should be this year's winner."If it was last year it would have been my award," West reminded everyone.
West also won for his album 'Graduation.' He spoke about his lofty goals for music and without a hint of humbleness, said: "I'd like to thank everyone who accepted me trying to break new boundaries in music. It's our responsibility as musicians to push music to the point it was in the '60s and '70s."
He added his dream to be the biggest thing ever in the music biz: "We will be the new Beatles, the new Hendrix. I want to be Elvis."
To that last remark, host Jimmy Kimmel quipped: "Elvis died on the toilet with half a jelly doughnut in his mouth. You may want to rethink that."
