Travis Barker, the former drummer for Blink 182, and DJ AM, were the only two survivors of the crash of a Learjet which skidded off the runway and burst into flames Friday night. The accident killed four other people. The plane, carrying two crew and four passengers, was departing Columbia, S.C., shortly before midnight when air traffic controllers reporting seeing sparks.
The plane went off the runway and crashed onto a nearby highway. Barker and DJ AM were in critical but stable condition at a burn center in Augusta, Ga.
Those killed were pilot Sarah Lemmon of Anaheim Hills, co-pilot James Bland of Carlsbad, passenger Chris Baker, 29, of Studio City, and passenger Charles Still, 25, of Los Angeles.
According to Fox News: At the crash site Saturday, the air was still heavy with the odor of jet fuel. A trail of black soot led off a runway, across a five-lane road next to the airport and up an embankment. The nose of the aircraft was gone and the roof was missing from two-thirds of the charred plane.
Barker and AM (Adam Goldstein) had performed together under the name TRVSDJ-AM at a free concert in Columbia on Friday night. The suffered second- and third-degree burns but it looks like they could make full recoveries.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to these guys, and for those who were killed on the plane.
