Actor Christian Bale, 34, was arrested after an incident in which his own mother and sister had reported him to police.
The alleged incident was believed to have taken place on Sunday night at the Dorchester Hotel where Bale is staying. His mother Jenny, 61, and sister Sharon, 40, (known to be drunks) are said to have gone to a police station to file a complaint against him. Too bad for Christian that family members feel the need to embarrass him on his biggest premiere night ever.
A Police spokesman said: "A 34-year-old man attended a London Police Station on Tuesday by appointment and was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault. He currently remains in custody."
(British police do not name suspects before they are formally charged.)
Bale was allowed to attend the first European screening of the new Batman film 'The Dark Knight' in London's West End on Monday night uninterrupted.
A source tells British newspaper The Sun, "It was a very difficult situation but it would have been wrong to have wrecked the premiere over a complaint which we don't yet know is founded in truth."
The latest on the internet is that the mother and sister are mean drunks and drug abusers who - you know where this is going - went to his hotel looking for a hand out. When the pair got abusive outside his hotel room - hilarity ensued.
A hotel source said: "His mom and sister are alcoholics and drug addicts, they showed up at his hotel uninvited and highly intoxicated. they were calling him big shot and that he needs to take care of his own. His mom was yelling that he would be nothing without her and he owed her. His sister was begging for money and when he was pushing her toward the door his mother came from behind and started hitting him on his head and kicking him. He managed to push them both out the door and his mom fell, they called the police and wanted him arrested. I believe that Chirstian is the victim here not his mom or sister."
"My father works security at the hotel, and he said it was a mess. His mom and sister wanted the front desk worker to let them into his room to wait for him. When they were told no they started cussing and yelling. they sat in front of his door for an hour until he finally arrived. "
The film took a record $158.3 million in its opening weekend at the US box office overtaking Spiderman 3, which took $151.1 million.
