A Chinese cinema chain has threatened to ban Sharon Stone’s movies following her controversial comments on the country’s recent earthquakes which left 80,000 people dead.
The actress said she believes the quakes were due to bad karma caused by the country’s treatment of Tibet.
At the Cannes Film Festival, the actress mused: “First, I'm not happy with the way the Chinese are treating the Tibetans ...and then all this earthquake and stuff happened and I thought, 'Is that Karma, when you're not nice that the bad things happen to you?'"
Her comments have angered the Chinese, with the cinema chain UWE threatening to ban her future films and shopkeepers removing posters of the actress from their windows.
Ng See-Yuen, UWE’s founded and chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Filmmakers, said Stone' comments were "inappropriate".
