Katie Holmes is said to be 'on the verge' of signing a contract to appear in a major Broadway play in the hopes that it will revive her failing career. 'Katie's feeling really down right now and she just wants to be hot property again,' a friend tells Now magazine. 'She feels washed up before she's even 30.'
'Katie had pretty good reviews for the movies she did before she met Tom Cruise and she was certain that her marriage to him would secure her future as a Hollywood big hitter,' says the friend. 'In fact, the opposite's happened.'
'It's been a tough year with all the embarrassing articles about Tom's Scientology obsession. It's affected Katie's confidence and her image. She's lost her status as a sex symbol – now it's the peculiarities of her marriage that get all the attention.'
Her latest movie 'Mad Money' flopped at the box office. She didn't star in it but was the third female lead. Other than being married to Tom, appearing on magazine covers, and running in marathons, Katie has not been in the news as an actress. According to imdb, she currently has no upcoming films in the pipeline.
Katie's told friends that she's inspired by actresses who've stepped back into the limelight after a stint in the theater. 'Katie's stuck in a rut,' adds the friend, 'but a successful run on Broadway could make her the name on everyone's lips again.'
Her potential appearance being stunt-casted in Arthur Miller’s "All My Sons" will not make or break the play in any case. It's going to be anchored by two heavy hitters, John Lithgow and Dianne Weist, who can carry the production.
