Rapper Remy Ma is in heaps of trouble after shooting her friend - with an illegal .45 cannon that just happened to be loaded with hollow-point bullets and just happened to have the safety off and just happened to be cocked and pointed at the other woman during a struggle when Remy attacked the be-otch inside the other woman's car. And the gun just happened to go off. Say what?
Her defense attorney acknowledged that Remy did in fact accidentally shoot her friend in July 2007, but said in closing arguments that the gun went off during a struggle over a bag.
Remy had maintained that Makeda Barnes-Joseph had stolen $3,000 from Remy's purse at a party and the rapper jumped into Barnes-Joseph's vehicle demanding to search her purse. Makeda denied taking the Terror Squad rapper's money but refused to empty her own purse so that Remy could look through it.
The two got into a struggle over the purse and the gun "went off."
Makeda was shot in the stomach. Prosecutors allege that Remy jumped into her SUV and fled the scene after the shooting, and slammed into a parked car a few blocks away. They claim that she then abandoned her SUV and made her way to a friend's apartment in Harlem. The gun has not been found.
Jury deliberation in the case begins today. If convicted, Remy Ma could face up to 25 years in prison.
