They’ve conquered the world, now they’re making the mark on space. The Beatles’ song 'Across the Universe' will be the first ever song to be beamed directly into space, Nasa has announced.
The song will be transmitted into space next week, which marks both the 40th anniversary of the track’s release and 50 years of Nasa.
The track will be aimed at the North Star, Polaris, 431 light-years from Earth.
Beatles star Sir Paul McCartney has described the project as "amazing".
"Well done, Nasa," he said in a message to the space agency. "Send my love to the aliens. All the best, Paul."
While John Lennon’s widow, Yoko Ono, adds: "I see this as the beginning of the new age in which we will communicate with billions of planets across the Universe."
Beatles fans are urged to play the song at midnight GMT on Monday night, the same time as it is transmitted into space.
