Fast as lightening, the crazy 8-minute video of Tom Cruise smirking and preaching about how Scientology believers are "authorities of the mind" has been floating around the far reaches of the innertubes before the big head Scientologists could get it removed. The cruiser's boasts that the cult can "bring peace and unite cultures" and "rehabilitate criminals" because
Speaking over a soundtrack featuring the Mission Impossible theme tune, Cruise declares his dedication to his faith.
"Beng a scientologist, you look as someone, and you know absolutely that you can help them. When you drive past an accident, it's not like anyone else; as you drive past, you know you have to do something about it, because you know you're the only one that can really help."
Tom also boasts: "It’s a privilege to call yourself a Scientologist, and it’s something that you have to earn because a Scientologist has the ability to create new and better realities and improve conditions." He goes on to say that Scientologists are the authorities on a wide number of topics and the only people who can truly help the masses.
The 45-year-old actor peppers his speech with Scientological terms such as "SP" (a suppressive person) and "PTSPs" (a potential trouble source, influenced by SPs) when delivering his message.
He recalls being asked whether he has ever met an "SP". He says: "I looked at them and I thought, what a beautiful thing. Maybe one day it will be like that. Wow. SPs. Maybe they will just read about them in the history books. [But] it's not about how to run from an SP. It's PTSP - how do you shatter or confront that oppression."
The film finishes with Cruise laughing, while a deep voiceover says: "Scientology can be defined by a single question: would you want others to develop the knowledge you have?
"In answering that question, Tom Cruise has introduced LRH [L. Ron Hubbard] technology to more than1 billion people on earth." The figure 1.037 billion flashes up on the screen.
"And that is only the first wave he has unleashed. That is why the story of Tom Cruise, Scientologist, has only just begun."
A Scientology spokeswoman said the full video could be seen in its churches. What appeared on the internet was a "pirated and edited" version of an acceptance speech Cruise had made in 2004 after receiving a "freedom medal" from the International Association of Scientologists, she said.
The video was taken down from youtube.com with a note that it "is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Church of Scientology International."
