The masseuse who discovered Heath Ledger's body lying still in his bedroom didn't know what to do. So she called Mary-Kate Olsen. The pint size actress told her she'd send someone over to see what was going on. Police made an investigation into the phone calls made by the masseuse and confirmed she'd called MK twice before calling for an ambulance.
Masseuse Diana Wolozin arrived at Ledger's Manhattan apartment to give him a massage mid-afternoon on Tuesday. When she went into his bedroom, she set up her table but when she was unable to awaken Ledger, she called the actress.
According to reports in the New York Post and New York's Daily News, Ledger and the Olsen twin were dating.
Olsen, 21, a friend of Ledger's, initially told the masseuse she would call security people in New York to come over and help. Then the masseuse realized Ledger's body was cold to the touch and called Olsen back to say she would call 911 herself, the sources say.
Wolozin called 911 at 3:26 p.m. She told authorities Ledger was not breathing and she tried to perform CPR while on the phone, but he was unresponsive.
Emergency aid workers arrived at the apartment at almost the exact same time as Olsen's security people – seven minutes later.
"I'm not going to speculate on why 911 was not called first," said police spokesperson Paul J. Browne, adding they are estimating Ledger was already dead, passing sometime between 1 p.m. and 2:45 p.m.
As initial autopsy results failed to provide a cause of the 28-year-old actor's death, police confirmed six types of prescription drugs, including a mix of anti-anxiety medication and sleeping pills, were found in his apartment.
Sources say the most likely cause of death remains an accidental overdose of anti-anxiety drugs, which can significantly slow breathing.
