The sudden accidental death of actor Heath Ledger has been especially difficult for his famous Brokeback Mountain costar and friend Jake Gyllenhaal, who is also godfather to Ledger's two-year-old daughter Matilda with Michelle Williams. A source says Gyllenhaal is devastated, and is "taking this harder than most people."
An insider on Gyllenhaal current movie set said that when the actor flew back from funeral services, he had a hard time concentrating on acting. "He was there, but he wasn't with us. It was obviously a major trauma," says the movie source. "These guys were very close. [Jake] was sitting in the director's chair staring off into space."
Gyllenhaal has since returned to LA from Mexico after shooting that scene, and was photographed Saturday looking subdued with girlfriend Reese Witherspoon. Set sources say director Jim Sheridan is shooting around the grieving actor during his personal leave.
