Will Smith's new sci-fi blockbuster, 'I Am Legend', has broken all December opening records at the box office.
The film, in which Smith - a guy who has everything in real life - plays the last surviving man on earth, scored a huge opening weekend and claimed the top spot with a staggering $72.6 million take.
It is Smith's 7th successive film to debut at number one.'I Am Legend' beat 'Lord of The Rings: The Return of The King''s 2003 haul to become the best December opener in film history.
"Until I met him, I've always believed that there are balances in people. That you really can't be smart, handsome, charismatic, happy. You can't be all of that," Legend director Francis Lawrence said explaining the appeal of Smith to CNN. "He's one of the only people that I can truly say kind of has all of that."
He's funny, he's charming, he's smart, he's handsome, he's happy, he's got a great marriage, he's a great father, he's great at what he does, he's happy at what he does. It's sort of disgusting," Lawrence said. "So if anybody would be the last man standing, it's Will."
