Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington have both scored their highest-grossing movie with ‘American Gangster’ this week.
The film, based on a true story, raked in $46.3m (£22.24m) over the weekend to take the top spot on the US box office chart. It stars Washington as seventies drug lord Frank Lucas and Crowe as a cop on his trail.
The animated ‘Bee Movie’ opened at number two after making $39.1m (£18.78m).
Horror sequel Saw IV, last weekend’s number one, dropped to number three on the chart.
The film was also the highest-grossing opener for both its stars, beating Inside Man ($29m (£13.93m)) and Gladiator ($35m (£16.81m)) respectively.
