Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly will team up for a remake of 'The Day the Earth Stood Still'. Variety is reporting that the Dark Water actress is cast as Helen Benson, a widow and young mother who helps Klaatu (Keanu), the humanoid alien.
If you don't know the story, Klaatu arrives on earth with his mighty tall robot associate, Gort, to talk some peace into humans ("Whoa, I come in peace"), or like, face annihilation from other planets who live in fear of the nuclear-lovin' earthlings.
Not liking this little "message" of peace, Klaatu is blasted by a trigger happy soldier. He later escapes from the hospital and chills by renting a room in a boarding house. His mission is to figure out how to get the humans to just all get along, yo, and give up the nuclear weapons, or face the wrath of Gort.
Kathy Bates is reportedly in talks to join the cast, and would be a perfect fit to play the owner of the boarding house in which Klaatu hides.
Fox has set a December start date in Vancouver for the remake of the Robert Wise's sci-fi 1951
classic.
