Having tired of playing gay cowboy roles, sweet boyfriend roles, and disaffected marine roles, Jake Gyllenhaal is gonna try on something a little more butch: the life of rough, tough pro football star quarterback Joe Namath. That's right. The QB that wore PANTYHOSE.
Says Variety, "The pic will tell the story of how the golden-armed kid from Beaver Falls, Pa., became Broadway Joe, the New York Jets quarterback who became a '60s cultural figure."
Namath became a sports hero, a celebrity pitchman and a sex symbol by the time the Jets won Super Bowl III. In addition to other products, Namath also filmed a TV commercial for Beautymist pantyhose in 1974. The camera started at a shapely pair of feet attached to a reclined pair of legs. When the camera panned up to the face - football fans were shocked to see it was their bad boy Joe wearing the pantyhose.
Can Jake's legs match those of Joe's?
According to reports, Namath has approved of the project and believes Gyllenhaal is the right actor to portray him.
