Dolphin savior and animal activist Hayden Panettiere has learned there’s a warrant out for her arrest in Japan because of her sea adventure a few weeks ago. Japanese police want to slap the handcuffs on Hayden, 18, for the protesting the killing of dolphins and whales by fishermen.
Paddling surfboards, the actress and a couple of activists attempted to get between a pod of dolphins and a fishing boat, but they were unable to prevent the killings.
After returning to shore, the group headed directly to Osaka and left the country to avoid being arrested for trespassing by the Japanese national police.
Despite the legal consequences, Hayden told E! News she’s proud of the experience. She said she said she was thrilled that the incident was receiving international attention, as it could result in educating others about the dolphins' plight.
The Japanese kill almost 20,000 dolphins every year for food.
"In this town, you tend to be able to get publicity when you're not wearing underwear or [you're] in rehab," Panettiere said. "I was very excited that people were interested in what we did."
