Gerard Butler has left the planned remake of 'Escape From New York' over "creative differences". It seems that the original Snake Plissken, Kurt Russell, threw a hissy fit when he learned the Scottish actor had been cast and did some protesting - insisting an American actor get the part.
Because, you know, all that grunting and snarling and mumbling minimalist dialogue can only be done by an American actor...
Speaking earlier this year, Russell said, "When I was told, my initial reaction was, 'Oh man.' I do think that character was quintessentially one thing - and that's American."
But then again, remaking 'Escape From New York' is such a fantasically bad idea on so many levels - why not just watch the original classic again and again?
Here ... here's some memorable dialogue to wet your appetite before you go rent the DVD:
Bob Hauk: 'There was an accident. About an hour ago, a small jet went down inside New York City. The President was on board.'
Snake Plissken: 'The president of what?'
