The friend of Nick Bollea, 17, son of wrestling icon Hulk Hogan and one of the stars of the reality series 'Hogan Knows Best', is still in a coma and his chances for recovery look very slim. It was revealed yesterday that, John Graziano, the friend and marine who was a passenger in Nick's car when it crashed in August, is still in critical condition and will need lifelong care.
Graziano, 22, was the passenger in a yellow Toyota Supra driven by Bollea who lost control and crashed the car into a palm tree in Clearwater, Florida, on Aug. 26. Unfortunately, Graziano was not wearing a seat belt.
A Sept. 19 report filed by registered nurse Joanne Jones, who was hired by the court to examine Graziano to determine if he is incapacitated, said he was on total life support. The report said that Graziano was comatose and that he may have had a seizure. Her report said Graziano responds to a pinch and has a gag reflex but does not otherwise respond to touch or sound. His pupils are fixed, meaning they don't respond to light.
The Hogans have been close to the Graziano family for years and are also suffering during this tragedy. Hulk told Entertainment Tonight last month: "We were always close. The crazy thing is that John is like my son too. When he went to Kuwait and came back, it was like a miracle. So the bond with these boys and with these two families is something that people don't understand. It's a tough one for all of us."
As for the story that the guys were racing the Supra, Hulk said: "It's just so unfair. There's not a bad bone in my son Nick's body. The most important thing to me was from all the eyewitnesses and from everyone who was there and saw it, they were not racing. Thank God."
Bollea may not be charged pending the outcome of the police investigation. One Tampa attorney, Mike Peacock, who has worked as a police officer, a prosecutor and a public defender, said that sometimes traffic accidents are just that - accidents. "There is not, there should not be, a remedy at law every time somebody is injured, no matter how tragic the outcome is," Peacock said.
A charge of racing or reckless driving will be a different matter though, and cops are still investigating the accident of 6 weeks ago.
