Heather Mills has lashed out at the media, saying thousands of abusive articles have driven her “close to suicide” and compared her treatment to that of Princess Diana.
Mills, the estranged wife of Beatles star Sir Paul McCartney, tearfully told a British TV breakfast show of her 18-month of press hell.
I've had worse press than a paedophile or a murderer and I've done nothing but charity for the 20 years,” she told GMTV.
"They've called me a whore, a gold digger, a fantasist, a liar," Heather said. Adding she’d suffered "eighteen months of abuse [and] 4,400 abusive articles".
She went on to deny suggestions she had used media coverage for her own advantage, saying: "I haven't used the press for anything but my charity.”
Adding: "I am the one that is abused daily. I have protected Paul for this long and I am trying to protect him but I am being pushed to the edge.
"What did the paparazzi do to Diana? They chased her and they killed her," Heather said.
She went on to speak about her divorce case from Paul, saying she’d been “offered nothing” and faced $3m (£1.5m) in legal fees.
