By now, most of you saw the shocking YouTube video of Miss Teen South Carolina Caitlin Upton getting flummoxed while answering a simple question with absurd gibberish that makes Britney Spears look like a rocket scientist. Yet in a stunning, unprecedented, come-out-of-nowhere, against-all-odds development, Caitlin just announced she will be attending Hillbilly U - also known as Appalachian State University.
Now, none of us had ever even heard of the school - until their Division I-AA team whooped ass all over #5 Michigan in what may be the biggest upset in college football history. Now, they've recruited Caitlin too!
What was the score? Appalachian State 34, Michigan 32.
"We're not a cupcake team," Athletic Director Charlie Cobb said.
Now back to you Caitlin Upton, who's 15 minutes of fame came during the live Miss Teen USA telecast when she was asked the following question: "Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can’t locate the United States on a world map. Why do you think this is?
Her response involved ... something about South Africa. Thusly, she spoke :
"I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some ... people out there in our nation don't have maps and, uh, I believe that our, ah, education like such as in South Africa, and, uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should, uh, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., or should help South Africa, it should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future, for."
Don't snicker, people, Caitlin's brilliant strategy worked! Do any of us remember the name of the winner, of Miss Teen USA? Nuh-uh.
Not only has the YouTube video scored 9 million hits, she's been on the Today Show defending herself, she's been contacted by Playboy who want her to pose naked, and is rumored to have been contacted by none other than American Idol's lil' snot ball, Sanjaya who's looking for a possible hook-up with the beauty. She declined - in yet another brilliant move.
