“It’s been an awfully long time since I’ve gone to a movie,” Christian Bale recently told the London Times. “I have nothing against them. I would just say that I’ve never been an avid fan, and would never consider them essential to my life.”
In the new western "3:10 to Yuma", however, Bale might change his mind about being an avid fan of his own film, which has garnered rav reviews and will likely find box office gold when it opens this weekend.
In "3:10", The Dark Knight and Prestige actor plays Dan Evans, a farmer who agrees to escort a killer, played by Russell Crowe, to a train headed for trial.
Bale says working with the superstar Crowe was a pleasure: “He turns out to be the nicest, easiest-going guy. Some stars want to dominate every scene. Russell gives you space to do your thing, which I respect."
He does admit that while he “loves” acting in movies, it’s just the movies themselves that he avoids. Bale also admits that he was “never a Batman fan,” but has had to take a lot of ribbing from Crowe on the publicity tour for "3:10".
Crowe said of Bale on first meeting him: "Right from the first time ...I could see that he had a sense of humor and was very balanced about what the job is and all that sort of stuff. Once you've worn the cape it must be hard…keeping your feet on the ground.
"You can tell that there's a lot of base jealousy coming from me about the fact that he gets to wear the cape..."
