The eye patch has been passed on to a new generation. Variety announced yesterday that Gerald Butler (Leonidas in "300") will take over the Kurt Russell role of Snake Plissken in a remake of John Carpenter's classic futuristic thriller "Escape From New York."
Len Wiseman, who had a monster hit with "Live Free or Die Hard" this summer, will direct.
The film revolves around the role of anti-hero Plissken, the convict and war hero who's sent into a futuristic Manhattan -- which has been turned into a giant maximum security prison -- to rescue the president after his plane is knocked down by terrorists.
