Owen Wilson's addiction to the lethal cocktail of Oxycontin, heroin and crystal meth may have been what drove away ex-girlfriend Kate Hudson, causing him to spiral into depression and slash his wrist in his suicide attempt on Sunday.
You can't blame Kate for not wanting to stick around - after all, she went through the same drug abuse thing with ex-husband and Black Crowes' frontman Chris Robinson.
"The drugs and partying were a huge factor in the breakup," said a pal of Kate's. "As much as she liked him, she didn’t want to be around that."
Insiders are revealing that Owen has been known to cut himself diliberately before, and has been in rehab twice at Promises in Malibu attempting to get over his drug abuse problems.
Owen's loved ones worried so much about his dependence on hard drugs that friend Woody Harrelson staged an informal intervention at his Hawaii home in May, Us Weekly is reporting.
But Owen continued to withdraw and succumb to depression following his June split from Kate, who is now dating "Punk'd" star Dax Shepard — and her new relationship might have pushed Wilson over the edge.
"Seeing her happy with someone else made him happy that she'd found that," one longtime Wilson family friend told the magazine, "but made him hate himself so much more that he could never do it.”
Fueling the fires, Courtney Love has spoken out on Owen's suicide attempt and is pointing the finger of blame at his friend and well-known British actor Stephen Coogan for supplying him with the drugs.
Despite the fact that Owen’s lawyer is denying that the comic actor OD'd on drugs when he slit his wrist, it is believed Owen will go directly from the hospital to a rehab facility when he's released.
