LA Galaxy fans bought season tickets hoping to see David Beckham play but the much-injured immortal has managed only a few minutes of play on a sprained left ankle. Frustrated fans have taken to holding up signs at Galaxy matches smacking the benchwarmer with messages such as: "Welcome to America. Where people like you get paid to do nothing."
Beckham, a soccer elder at 32, is receiving treatment daily for the injury, which he suffered while playing for England on June 6.
The Galaxy is giving the former captain, who signed a five-year contract this year, upwards of $250 million to play and promote soccer in the US. And he has delivered.
Even sitting on the bench, he's a gold mine: Beckham games have sold out around the league as the Galaxy's schedule was heavily loaded with road games so that every MLS team could cash in on the superstar.
Still, you can't stay mad at him - he's awfully purdy. Forget the soccer and just put him in movies already.
