Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie has become a pioneer of sorts. Setting aside artistic vision, at least somewhat, she going to be the first singer to pen lyrics to endorse products in her songs. Fergie will receive a reported $4 million by Candie's to promote their clothing line on her second solo album. An executive at Interscope told the London Times : "With record sales in decline, you must find novel ways to make money out of the music."
"The trick is to make the brand part of the song so that it slips down easily rather than chokes the fan. Candie's will reach teens, but it has no say over exactly what Fergie will sing, or when.
"Fans might think she is just singing about candy. But it's got to work in the song. Fergie does not sing jingles."
Fergie has also agreed to appear in Candie's TV ads and allow Candie's advisors to style fans at her shows.
