Were you expecting mob boss Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) to get whacked - maybe even his whole family along with him at the table in a greasy spoon? Suspense builds as strange men enter... one goes into the men's room, the juke box is playing "Don't Stop Believing", while the family engages in small talk. Was this how it was all to end? Were you expecting...
The camera to just fade to black?
... After a few suspenseful moments, nothing happens to Tony Soprano. Eight years of killings, torture, family squabbles, therapy, and what? No f**king ziti? as A.J. would say.
In last night's finale, Leotardo was shot in the head and crushed by Tony's car, so that was some justice. Otherwise, it was the funeral for brother-in-law Bobby Bacala who was shot dead on Leotardo's orders last week. And Tony visiting his badly injured consigliere, Silvio Dante, in the hospital. Dr. Melfi, who kicked Tony out of therapy last week, did not make an appearance in the final episode.
Back at the diner, Meadow had trouble parallel parking ... will her entire family be gunned down and this simple act save her life? When the bells on the front door ring, Tony looks up expecting to see her walk in.
And that's where the scene ends. We'll never know what happened to Tony that day in the diner... not until the movie comes out in a few years.
