Angelina Jolie, who hasn't spoken to her actor father Jon Voight in years, is having a change of heart now that she has suffered through the recent death of her mother. The actress cut him out of her life following his criticism of her in a 2002 TV interview where he implied she needed therapy and was suffering from "severe emotional problems".
Voight has since apologized publicly and repeatedly, but Angelina has up until now been unwilling to communicate with him.
In the past, Jolie has hinted about was caused the riff: "He said some very ugly things to me about what he thought I was like as a person and how I was conducting my life... I don't have to listen to what he says. I don't have to care. And I don't have to have him in my life."
But since her mother's death from cancer in January, Angelina has softened her attitude about her sole surviving parent. Offering a potential olive branch, she told London's Evening Standard newspaper, "I am hoping my relationship with my father will be more private in the future. At the end of the day, we both wish the best for each other and we'll try to start communicating in some way."
