If you were at the House of Blues last night in San Diego, you got to see Britney Spears make her big comeback - all 15 minutes of it. The Toxic singer took the stage making her first public concert appearance in nearly three years - and a packed house of 1000 fans had paid upwards of $125 per ticket hoping that the mysterious M+Ms show was really the launch of the pop princess' come-back tour.
Starting the five-song set with "Baby One More Time," she performed for 15 minutes in a pink and rhinestone bra, rip-away skirt, white go-go boots - and a wig - then played a taped Madonna song as she exited the stage. "Thanks everyone for coming!" she said as she left.
Fans who paid $35 for a ticket - or $125 to a scalper - felt cheated by brief show: "It looked like she lip-synched her way through the whole thing," said a disappointed Morgan Segall, 20, who flew in from San Francisco for the night.
“It wasn't a good move for her career,” Mackenzie Trimble said after the show. “When you come out and do four songs and lip-sync . . . that's not what Britney fans came to see.”
Maybe they were hoping that wig of hers would go flying off into the audience...
According to reports, Britney is set to make several other appearances this week, including California 's House of Blues in Anaheim tonight (02.05.07), the Los Angeles House of Blues tomorrow (03.05.07) and the House of Blues Las Vegas inside Mandalay Bay on Sunday (06.05.07).
